About the Founder

Experience that connects people, practice and strategy.

Second Desk was founded by Simeon Aikman on a simple idea: good consultancy should be grounded in real experience, not theory alone.

Extensive experience across youth work, charity and education — alongside extensive experience of working remotely and leading in virtual environments.

I have spent my career working across youth work, the charity sector and education, with experience spanning frontline delivery, programme development, leadership and strategic implementation.

My work on the National School Breakfast Programme has involved working closely with hundreds of schools across England. I have recruited more schools onto the programme than any other individual contribution, while also working at lead level to support implementation and delivery. This has included close work with the Department for Education.

My wider education experience includes the Blues Programme, a mental health intervention; the Inspiration Programme for Action for Youth in Aylesbury; colleges; pupil referral units; Catch22; enrichment; and wraparound care.

Alongside this, I bring extensive remote-working experience. I have developed and implemented practical approaches to virtual catch-ups, one-to-ones, appraisals, staff development, team connection and productivity — learning how to create a cohesive team when people are not in the same room.
